Day 1

Arrival in Reykjavík and first contact with Iceland

City centre, waterfront and preparation for wind and weather

Use the first day to set Iceland up properly: check weather, wind and road information before thinking about distance. Walk between Hallgrímskirkja, the centre, Harpa and the Sun Voyager so you immediately understand how compact Reykjavík is—and how quickly conditions can change. If you collect a car, learn parking and local driving basics before attempting a long leg.

The first day is intentionally flexible: flight delays, baggage and road conditions can change your real arrival time. Avoid booking two non-refundable activities too close together.

Pace: this is intentionally an active day. Keep thermal layers, dry gloves and water easy to reach; Arctic weather can change quickly and guides may adjust timing or route.

Day 2

Golden Circle: Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss

Geology, water and Icelandic history in one day

The Golden Circle works because its three main stops tell different parts of Iceland's story. Þingvellir combines history and geology, the Geysir area reveals an active geothermal system, and Gullfoss shows the power of water in a canyon. Do not overload every gap with minor stops; winter daylight is precious and surfaces can be icy. A guided tour makes sense if you prefer not to manage variable driving conditions.

Day 3

Silfra: snorkelling between tectonic plates

Crystal-clear glacial water and logistics to take seriously

Silfra is a very specific experience: exceptionally clear water, a drysuit and a route where guide instructions matter. Do not book it only for the phrase “between two continents”; check physical requirements, suit sizing, medical restrictions and what to wear underneath. Pair it with Þingvellir rather than extra mileage, because changing, briefing and warming up take far longer than the time spent in the water.

Final day: choose a flight that is not too early if you want to keep the planned activity; otherwise move it to the previous day and use the morning only for breakfast, luggage and transfer.
